With the release of the new Business Central 2025 Release Wave 2 (version 27.0), updates are expected across various functional areas of the system. A significant number of updates focus on performance improvements, expansion of AI agent functionality, and process automation.
Below is information about some of the announced features.
Financial Management
Simultaneous Accounting for Multiple Fixed Assets
Previously, when purchasing fixed assets, it was necessary to create separate document lines for each fixed asset. As part of the update, a field was added to purchase lines to specify the quantity of fixed assets.
Based on this field, the system automatically copies the specified fixed asset card in the required quantity and proportionally calculates the purchase cost of each fixed asset. Thus, document processing when purchasing identical fixed assets should become faster and more efficient.
Financial Reports
For viewing financial reports, the ability to create scheduled reports and receive results by email at the planned time has been added.
New capabilities have also been added for financial report authors, including: the ability to modify column and row definitions, updated export to Excel and Word, notifications about the need to update financial reports when chart of accounts names change, and the ability to use column definitions in both local and additional reporting currency.
Copilot & AI Agents
Enhanced Search
The previous version of enhanced search for system pages and objects will be available in the upcoming update. This will allow finding pages and reports based on descriptions, even if they don’t match the object name in the system.
Thus, if a user doesn’t have information about the exact page name, they can use enhanced search and provide a brief description or query that needs to be executed. Based on this, the system provides a list of objects that match the client’s request.
Creating Analysis Reports Using Copilot
Previous versions of Business Central allowed using Copilot when working with the Analysis feature on list pages. In future versions, it’s expected that Copilot will be able to create views that include data from related tables.
For example, when creating an analytical view in the Item Ledger Entries, Copilot will be able to provide information about vendor or customer names, warehouse names or addresses, etc.
The new functionality also allows restricting or granting access rights for using Copilot. Additionally announced is the ability to receive feedback from Copilot if creating a new view might affect system performance.
Auto-fill Fields
In previous versions, the system already proposed field completion based on AI, with suggestions that could be accepted or rejected. In newer versions, auto-fill data is expected to be more accurate and reliable.
Furthermore, the use of Bing – AI-based web search is expected, which will allow using not only data search within your company, but also data from other resources.
Thus, for example, when filling out a vendor card, auto-completion of fields regarding address, postal code, email, and company homepage is expected, provided this information is available in open access.
AI Agent Work Control
When using AI agents in work, it will become possible to control task execution by the agent and provide additional instructions for each task execution.
For example, if an agent encounters a work blockage due to lack of data, the user will be able to select the necessary data in the chat with the agent, after which it will be able to continue task execution.
Personalization
Business Central continues workspace optimization and adds new capabilities for manual adjustment of object sizes: Copilot panel, help, and others.
More fields have also been added that users will be able to display through personalization, for example, on General Sales Order Archive, Sales Order Archive, General Sales Orders, Sales Credit Memos pages, etc.
Production
In the updated system version, the ability to set default consumption calculation has been announced, which will affect values in the consumption journal and when calculating costs in production journals.
